New call for answers on 10th anniversary of Dandenong man’s disappearance

A new request has been filed by detectives into the disappearance of Victorian man Jake Lyons, who went missing ten years ago.

To mark the 10th anniversary of Lyons’ disappearance, detectives from the Missing Persons Unit are asking for the public’s help.

Lyons, then 20 years old, was last seen at his Dandenong home on Scullin Street at around 9am on August 25, 2014.

He lived in the building with his father Rick, who told police he last saw his son when he left for work in the city that morning.

According to police, a friend of Lyons arrived at the Scullin Street home to pick him up. The two were planning to look at rental properties together.

The friend told police the front door was open and there was no sign of Lyons.

When Rick arrived home at 7pm that day, he found his silver 2006 Holden Astra station wagon missing and his son not home.

Lyons was reported missing on August 28.

A few days later, on August 31, the Holden Astra was found at Warner Reserve in Springvale.

Lyons has not been seen in the past 10 years and his phone and bank accounts have not been accessed.

According to police, his disappearance is “highly unusual.”

Detectives have re-released images of Lyons in hopes someone will come forward with information about his whereabouts.

“Jake’s disappearance remains a mystery to detectives and his family, even 10 years after he was last seen,” said Acting Detective Inspector Anthony Combridge.

“Unfortunately, there have been no sightings of Jake in the last ten years and we know he has not had access to his phone or bank accounts. His disappearance is still considered highly unusual and we are open to all possibilities, including the possibility that Jake may have been involved in foul play.

“Even the smallest new detail could lead to a breakthrough and give Jake’s family answers.”
