New tropical disturbance emerges in the Atlantic Ocean: National Hurricane Center

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean.

According to the NHC’s Sunday morning update, the system has a 30% chance of developing as it moves westward or southwestward across the tropical Atlantic Ocean over the next seven days.

The system is located a few hundred kilometers west of the Cape Verde Islands and is expected to move to an environment less conducive to development in the coming days.

However, as it continues to move westward in the western tropical Atlantic Ocean, it may move into an area more conducive to development by mid-week.

The wave will be monitored over the next ten days as development could increase next weekend.

It’s unclear what impact the storm could have on Florida, which has already been battered by two hurricanes — Helene and Milton — in the past month.
