New video shows Vancouver ballot box exploding, officials call it a ‘bombing’

Footage from C-TRAN cameras shows smoke billowing from the ballot box at Fisher’s Landing Transit Center moments after someone passed by. Less than 30 seconds after the car drives away, the ballot box explodes.

KATU obtained the video from the transportation agency on Monday through a public records request.

The FBI’s Portland office is leading the investigation. The agency released a statement last week after the incident: “The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI want to assure our communities that we are working closely and expeditiously to resolve the two polling hot spots in Vancouver, Washington and one in Portland, Oregon, and will work to hold those responsible fully accountable.”

Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey told KATU last week that the explosion did not deter voters from using ballot drop boxes.

Last week, he said after “the bombing of the Fisher’s Landing ballot box… voters began using the ballot box in person at a higher rate than we saw in 2020.”

On the eve of Election Day, Kimsey told KATU that the county recovered 494 ballot remnants from the burned mailbox, six of which were unidentifiable. The remaining 488 had information identifying voters, whom the audit office contacted.
