There are few musical theater posters more iconic than the original 2008 West End design for Wicked. The famous ‘whisper’ design is instantly recognizable, and many wondered when the 2024 film would finally tip its pointy hat to the original. Well, it’s finally here, but the lackluster effort didn’t exactly enchant the fans.

With Arianna Grande’s Glinda whispering in the ear of the green Elphaba, played by Cynthio Erivo. But from the obvious Photoshopping to the lack of a lipstick grin, the design is being roasted online. One of the best print ads, it isn’t.

In a world of movie posters with floating heads, we’re used to characters not looking like they’re in the same room. But this one has a particularly creepy copy-and-paste effect thanks to the over-produced lighting. And Elphaba, without her red grin, just looks a little bored.
