NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — New York Comic Con kicked off Thursday at the Javits Center.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to attend the four-day convention, the largest comics and pop culture event on the East Coast.

The event features various panels from popular television shows, movies and comics, celebrity appearances and many fans in costumes.

Fallon Prinzivalli is the marketing director of Reed/Pop, the company that brings it all together.

“I think what’s so unique about being in this place, especially in New York, which is also my hometown, is the community aspect. This is the one weekend of the year where the people who come here feel that they can be themselves, they can embrace their inner nerd,” Prinzivalli said.

The event isn’t just fun and cosplay, it’s big business. NYC Tourism estimates it will generate more than $80 million in economic impact in a city where anything can happen, and for four days, it does.
