Olivia Nuzzi, New York Magazine’s star Washington correspondent, has resigned after revealing she recently had a romantic relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the magazine reported Thursday.

According to Oliver Darcy, who first broke the news, the magazine only recently learned of the relationship, before Nuzzi went public.

“Recently, our Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while covering the campaign, a violation of the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure,” a spokesperson for the magazine told Darcy in a statement.

“Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign. An internal review of her published work found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias. She is currently on leave from the magazine and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party investigation. We regret this violation of our readers’ rights,” the statement continued.

It’s unclear how long their affair lasted, but Darcy reports that “a person close to Nuzzi” insists the affair didn’t begin until after her profile of Kennedy was published in November 2023. This person also insists that Kennedy did not serve as a source for Nuzzi’s coverage of the 2024 presidential election.

Darcy also reports that Kennedy “bragged” about the relationship.

Kennedy has been married to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Cheryl Hines since 2014. Nuzzi and Politico’s chief Washington correspondent Ryan Lizza announced their engagement in September 2023.

Nuzzi has not spoken publicly on the matter. Representatives for Kennedy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap. Hines could not be reached for comment.
