A Newfield man has been sentenced in connection with a kidnapping that occurred in early 2023.

Joseph M. Howell, 39, has been found guilty in connection with a February 2023 kidnapping and robbery in the city of Van Etten. After a week-long trial, the Chemung County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday, August 23, that Howell was convicted of two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree theft and one count of second-degree kidnapping.

As a second offender, Howell faces a prison sentence of eight to 25 years. Sentencing is scheduled for October 25, 2024.

Additionally, Howell faces charges in Tioga County including first- and second-degree murder, kidnapping and intimidation of a victim or witness in connection with another incident in May 2023.
