The voter registration deadline in Oregon is October 15, 2024

The voter registration deadline for new voters in Oregon is Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Make a plan today to register to vote or check if you are registered to vote at your current address. You can register online to vote www.oregonvotes.gov/register.

To register to vote online, an eligible voter must have a valid Oregon driver’s license, permit or identification card. The deadline for online registration is Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 11:59 PM.

If you do not have a valid Oregon driver’s license, permit or identification card, or if it has expired, you will need to complete a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card. Registration cards can be found at the Elections Division office, Oregon DMV, US Post Office and public library locations, or printed from our website. The deadline for mailing the Oregon Voter Registration Card is USPS postmarked October 15, 2024.

Voters can register to vote in person at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building (1040 SE Morrison St., Portland) or at the Voting Center Express in the Multnomah County East Building (600 NE 8th St., Gresham).

Starting Tuesday, October 15, both voter service locations will have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The deadline for in-person voter registration is 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at one of the Multnomah County locations.

Let’s make a plan to VOTE! at the November 5, 2024 general election

The November 5 general election in Oregon includes local elections for Portland Mayor, Portland City Council, Portland Auditor, Multnomah County Board of Commissioners, federal elections for President of the United States and U.S. House of Representatives, and state contests for Oregon Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, and state legislative seats. Voters will also decide on state and local ballot measures.

Ahead of the November 5 General Election, Multnomah County Elections reminds all voters: Let’s make a plan to VOTE! This action-oriented checklist goes through the steps necessary to ensure your vote is counted:

  • Register to VOTE.
  • Receive your ballot.
  • VOTE your ballot.
  • Return your ballot.
  • HAVE A VOICE and make a difference!

Receive your ballot

Ballots will be mailed to registered voters in Multnomah County beginning Wednesday, Oct. 16. If you have not received your ballot by Thursday, October 24, take action by calling Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) for a replacement ballot. .

Return your ballot

You have two options for returning your ballot. First, you can vote early and return your ballot by mail. No stamp needed! Ballots must be postmarked by 8:00 PM on Election Day, November 5, and arrive within seven days of Election Day to be counted.

You can also return your ballot paper to an official polling station. Return your ballot to an official 24-hour ballot box in the state or to a 24-hour Multnomah County Library Drop Site. All official Multnomah County ballot locations are listed at multco.us/dropsites. Ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on election night, November 5.

Would you like to know when your ballot has been sent? Sign up for Track your ballot to receive text, email, or voice alerts when the County Elections office mails your ballot to you and when we receive your ballot. You may also receive alerts if your ballot has been accepted for counting or if further action is needed. In the “Accepted Ballot” message, voters will have access to a special Oregon “I Voted” sticker, ready to share on social media. Multnomah County voters can register by visiting multnomah.ballotrax.net.

Reminder: With ranked choice voting coming, the vote will look different for voters in the city of Portland this year

This November 5, 2024 general election will mark the first time voters in the City of Portland will use ranked choice to select candidates in contests for Portland Mayor, Portland City Council, and Portland Auditor. And that means the ballots for those voters will look different this fall.

Ranked choice voting allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference rather than choosing just one candidate. With this method, a person’s vote will count for another candidate if their favorite candidate is eliminated. Voters in Portland can rank up to six candidates.

Multnomah County Elections has both a video And sources website which explains the basics of ranked choice voting.

Voting Center Express in Gresham will be open October 10

Multnomah County Elections will open its second service location, the Voice Center Express in Gresham, starting today, Thursday, October 10, through Election Day, November 5. The Voting Center Express is located in the Multnomah County East Building at 600 NE 8th St. in downtown Gresham. Voters can get help registering to vote or replacing a lost ballot, get help voting, ask questions or vote in person.

Countdown to November 5 Election Day

  • Voter pamphlets (state and province) sent to all residential households: October 9 – 11, 2024
  • Voting Center Express in Gresham opens: October 10, 2024
  • Voter registration deadline: October 15, 2024
  • Ballots will be sent to voters: October 16, 2024
  • All voters should have received their ballot: October 24, 2024
  • Election Day – Ballots must be returned or postmarked by 8:00 PM on Election Day: November 5, 2024
  • Final official election results certified: December 2, 2024
