NFL News Updates: Rams’ Puka Nacua Injured Against Lions; Browns’ David Njoku ‘Week-To-Week’

All but two of the 32 NFL teams have already begun their 2024 seasons, and the impact of Week 1 is now visible.

From a couple of major injuries that could impact the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns, and pretty much every fantasy league, to the Tyreek Hill incident in Miami and the quarterback situation in Pittsburgh, it’s sure to be a busy week off the field.

Yahoo Sports keeps you up to date with live updates, news and notes from around the league as the season gets underway.

Browns tight end David Njoku is considered “week-to-week,” according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. Njoku suffered the injury during their blowout loss to Dallas. He underwent tests on Monday and it remains to be seen whether he will be available for their Week 2 matchup against the Jaguars.

Puka Nacua had four catches for 35 yards before leaving the Rams’ Sunday night loss to the Detroit Lions. He was stretchered off the sideline after the second quarter and did not return.

After Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury late in training camp, forcing Justin Fields into the starting lineup for Week 1, the Steelers enter Week 2 with a question mark at quarterback following an 18-10 win at Atlanta in which Fields threw for 156 yards.

Live10 updates

  • Bears rookie WR Rome Odunze set for knee MRI

Odunze had one catch for 11 yards during Chicago’s 24-17 win over the Titans.

  • David Njoku considered “week-to-week”

Stefanski did not give a definitive timeline for how long the tight end would be out. The Browns play the Jaguars in Week 2.

  • More details on Tyreek Hill’s arrest outside Hard Rock Stadium

According to sources, Tyreek Hill was issued two citations as a result of his traffic stop on Sunday: reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt. Calais Campbell, who said police briefly placed him in cuffs after the game for “failing to comply with a direct order,” ultimately received no citation. Miami-Dade police told me this morning that it’s still an internal investigation, so they can’t yet provide details about what led to the reckless driving citation or why Hill was being held facedown on the ground in cuffs. One of the officers on the scene remains on administrative duty.

Hill was handcuffed outside Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium just hours before the Dolphins kicked off against Jacksonville. Hill was eventually released and played in Miami’s 20-17 victory.

Hill told reporters after Sunday’s game that he had “no idea” why he was being held. “It wasn’t disrespectful because my mom didn’t raise me that way. He didn’t swear,” he said. “I’m still trying to figure it out.”

  • Steelers need new punter/keeper now that Cameron Johnston is done for the year

  • Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson week-to-week with MCL sprain.

Ferguson injured his knee while trying to hurdle a Browns player during the Cowboys’ 33-17 win on Sunday. The tight end had three catches for 15 yards before leaving the game.

ESPN’s Todd Archer reports that Ferguson could be available for Week 2 against the Saints.

  • Giants and Daniel Jones hear boos on and off the field.

It was a memorable opening day at MetLife Stadium for the Giants during their 28-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

There was loud booing and some players, such as defender Dexter Lawrence, did not appreciate it.

“I don’t have any respect for it, honestly,” Lawrence said. “I get it, they want their team to win. It’s just a tough time. It is what it is.”

Some fans even began booing Daniel Jones as he left the stadium after his performance, in which he completed 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards and two interceptions.

  • No end in sight for Haason Reddick stand

“I still maintain that if he’s here, we’ll welcome him with open arms,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Saturday. “We’re going to love him, and he’s going to be a part of this football team and he’s going to help us win a lot of football games. He’s got to handle the financial stuff, but that’s not my business.”
