NFL Referees Ripped for Missing Most Obvious Penalty of the Season in Texans-Patriots

Being an NFL referee isn’t the easiest job. The action moves quite quickly and the pressure of work must be great. So while they should be commended for the job they do, they should also be called out a bit when they miss an obvious call that anyone watching the game could have called.

That happened during Sunday’s Texans-Patriots game when Mario Edwards Jr. of Houston grabbed Antonio Gibson’s face mask on a play early in the third quarter and nearly ripped off the running back’s head.

The announcers rightly couldn’t believe the referees had missed this one, because look how obvious it was:

Making matters worse for the Patriots is that Drake Maye threw the ball away on the next play, leading to a Houston TD moments later.
