NFL Show Has No Confidence Detroit Lions Will Beat Rams in Week 1

The NFL Network’s “GameDay Morning” team doesn’t have a good feeling about the Detroit Lions in their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football.

Among them was former Lions coach Steve Mariucci, an Upper Peninsula native and Iron Mountain native.

Neither regular “GameDay” host Rich Eisen (a loyal Michigan alum), nor colorful analyst Kyle Brandt, nor analyst Gerald McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle over the past decade, picked the Rams, a 4½-point underdog at Detroit’s Ford Field. The Lions’ lone pick came from Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, who helped the Rams to two Super Bowl appearances, including the 1999 championship.

“Kurt somehow got lucky and beat the Lions by himself, at home tonight,” Eisen said as their Week 1 roster chart appeared on the screen for the final time just before 1 p.m.

Warner was responding to a fan’s tweet asking how he could select the Lions.

Warner’s response: “Haha, because I just pick who I think is going to win and not who I want. I think it’s going to be a great game and I would love for the Rams to win!”

The “GameDay” Rams predictions were in stark contrast to ESPN’s panel of experts, with 10 of 11 predicting the Lions will win in a rematch of their thrilling 24-23 wild-card playoff victory in the same building eight months ago.
