After an exciting Sunday of NFL action, Week 3 continued with two more games for fans to get their fill of.

There were teams looking to get their first win, a team looking to continue their perfect start, and another team looking for promising signs from their rookie quarterback.

Below are the key storylines from Monday’s events.

Sometimes a rookie has a “Welcome to the NFL” moment.

That was the case for the Commanders’ new quarterback Jayden Daniels on Monday night as he played a starring role in Washington’s stunning 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, missed just two of his 23 passes and threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns, also running for another touchdown, a near-perfect performance in his primetime debut.

The 23-year-old’s combination of accuracy with his arm and elusiveness with his legs proved to be a thorn in the side of the Bengals defense all night at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.

Daniels also made history with his outing: His 91.3 percent completion percentage was the highest ever in a game for a rookie, according to the NFL. He also became the first player since at least 1950 to throw for 250 yards and score multiple touchdowns, rush for a score and complete 90+ percent of his passes, according to the NFL.

Additionally, Daniels became the third rookie quarterback since 2000 — following Dak Prescott and Justin Herbert — to score a passing and rushing touchdown in the same primetime game.

“I just said I’m a competitor,” Daniels said when asked what he brings to the NFL. “I want to compete at the highest level. Obviously, it’s a blessing to be able to do things every Sunday that a lot of people in the world can’t do. To be blessed to be a part of one of the 32 teams and go out there every Sunday, Monday or whenever we play and compete.”

Daniels’ second touchdown pass of the night with 2:10 left effectively sealed the win, connecting 27 yards to Terry McLaurin to give Washington a 12-point lead.

The Bengals scored on a one-yard rush from Zach Moss with 40 seconds left to cut the lead to five points. But it wasn’t enough for the Commanders, who claimed their second win of the season.

Afterward, Washington’s first-year head coach Dan Quinn was full of praise for his rookie quarterback.

“He’s a really cool customer and he’s got a really confident attitude,” Quinn told reporters. “When we came in, we knew how important the ball was and how to decide it. We just couldn’t give them short fields and chances to go.

“So, his ability to know when to do it and when not to do it, when to make a play with his legs, we’ve seen that a lot in training, and now you’re seeing that in the games as well, where making decisions, sliding, going, taking your shot, I thought he put in a really strong performance tonight.”

While the win provides a boost to Washington’s upcoming season, the loss ensures the Bengals can’t rebuild a poor start to their season.

Cincinnati has now gone three weeks without a win this season and Monday’s loss was their second home defeat to a surprise opponent after losing to the New England Patriots in Week 1.

While quarterback Joe Burrow and the rest of the offense looked like a strong threat, the Bengals’ defense was unable to beat Washington’s offense, as Daniels continued to score at will. So successful were both offenses, the game was the first NFL game since 1940 without a turnover or punt, according to Bleacher Report

Before the season they were expected to reach the Super Bowl, but after an 0-3 start to the season that seemed unlikely.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen put on a spectacular show on Monday, leading Buffalo to a convincing 47-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Allen broke through in the first half at Highmark Stadium, completing 22 of his 28 throws for 247 yards and four touchdowns, giving the Bills a 34-3 lead into halftime.

The second half was a lot slower, but the result was already known: Buffalo started the season 3-0.

Aside from the explosive first-half attack, there was a special moment in the first 30 minutes when Damar Hamlin – playing his first game on Monday night since suffering a cardiac arrest last year – recorded his first career interception.

The Bills safety collapsed during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals last January after taking a tackle and a gunshot to the head and chest. Emergency medical professionals performed CPR when he lost his pulse and had to be revived with CPR and defibrillation. He was on a ventilator for days and spent more than a week in a Cincinnati hospital.

It was later determined that Hamlin’s cardiac arrest was caused by commotio cordis, a condition that can occur when severe trauma to the chest disrupts the heart’s electrical charge, causing dangerous fibrillations (or abnormal heartbeats).

On Monday night, Hamlin intercepted Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence midway through the second quarter and ran the ball back 19 yards to the Jacksonville 41-yard line, celebrating with his teammates in front of the crowd.

“It’s special, man,” Hamlin told ESPN of his teammates’ reaction. “They were a huge part of my ability to make this kind of comeback. They pushed me. They gave me love, they gave me grace, they gave me everything I needed on the journey, and they were even happier than I was to get my first interception.

“It shows the community and the bond that we have here in Buffalo. It really is a special place and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

For the Jaguars, Monday’s loss means the team begins the season without a win, with three weeks under their belt and few positives.

Lawrence struggled to match Allen’s offensive explosion, throwing for just 178 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He was benched late in the game for Mac Jones to protect him from injury.

Afterward, Jags head coach Doug Pederson gave a candid assessment of his team’s performance over the past three weeks.

“It’s really shocking. Very disappointing. You hate to say it, but the reality is this is who we are right now,” Pederson told reporters. “We’re not a very good football team and we’ve got to fix that. We’ve got to come up with some answers and we’ve got to do it quickly.”
