Monday night we saw the Blue Jackets as big underdogs, but two late goals from the Flyers and the Avalanche’s inability to score on the empty net led to a 1-2 night for a narrow loss.

We’re back on Tuesday night with a loaded slate and I’ve laid down my three best bets, including the Canucks taking on the Rangers in tonight’s final.

Prediction of lightning vs penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are 7-10-3 this season, but their underlying stats tell a different story and I think it’s worth betting on a possible positive regression. They enter tonight’s rankings at 10th in expected 5-on-5 goal percentage and second in expected 5-on-5 goal percentage.

The opposite is true for the Lightning, who, despite being 9-6-1, rank 18th in 5-on-5 expected goals percentage and 14th in CORSI%.

There’s plenty to justify a bet on the Penguins as major underdogs tonight.

Panthers vs. Jets Prediction

Regression came sooner or later for the Winnipeg Jets. They were 15-1, despite having average stats at best, and have now lost two games in a row. The value is still there in terms of this team fading until the market adjusts their prices properly. The Jets currently rank 19th in CORSI% and 22nd in expected 5-on-5 goals percentage.

The Panthers beat this team 5-0 on Saturday and are now the underdog for them tonight? I’ll take that bet. Florida is the better team from top to bottom.

Rangers vs. Canucks

The Canucks have been playing great hockey in recent weeks, ranking fourth in the NHL in expected 5-on-5 goals percentage and eighth in CORSI%, both well above the Rangers who rank 13th and 22nd in those two respective metrics.

The Rangers are supported by strong goalkeeping, but that is not enough to convince me that they are on the right side as slight favorites. I’m rooting for the better team in the Canucks as slight underdogs.
