NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and brother hit and killed by car while biking in New Jersey

NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother were killed Thursday night while riding bicycles on a rural New Jersey road, authorities said.

According to investigators, Johnny and Matthew were riding bicycles on Stumpy Lane in Oldmans Township around 8:30 p.m. when they were struck by a passing car.

The driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident.

Gaudreau, 31, has played 11 NHL seasons, including nine with the Calgary Flames. Gaudreau spent the past two seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The former Boston College star, nicknamed “Johnny Hockey,” was originally from Salem, New Jersey and attended Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester City.

His younger brother, Matthew Gaudreau, played with Johnny at Boston College and is a minor league hockey player for the Reading Royals.

Their father, Guy Gaudreau, was a hockey coach at Gloucester Catholic for more than a decade.
