Nicole Kidman says the 2001 viral meme has nothing to do with her divorce

Meme queen Nicole Kidman has set the record straight about an infamous photo.

In a new interview with British GQthe Baby girl actress, 57, spoke about a much-discussed photo from 2001, around the time she was finalizing her divorce from Tom Cruise. The photo shows her walking down the street with her arms raised in an almost triumphant pose.

When asked if there was any truth to the rumor that the photo was taken after the dissolution of her first marriage, the Australian native – who has been married to country singer Keith Urban since 2006 – said with a laugh: “That’s not true.”

“I wasn’t; that was from a movie, that wasn’t real life. I know that image!” continued Kidman, who did not name the film.

The Oscar winner also referenced the GIF of her clapping with just her palms at the 2017 Academy Awards.

“I’ve also seen the one where I clap like that,” she said, imitating the motion.

‘Because I had a huge, heavy borrowed ring on and it really hurt, and I was afraid of breaking the jewelry. Ha! There’s always something behind the actual images that appear there, right?”

Kidman said she doesn’t mind taking all the memes out of her post-pandemic commercials for AMC movie theaters, and urges people to get back to the movies.

“Yes, yes. “Heartbreak feels good in a place like this.” But I do everything for the movie, so you can meme me all you want,” she said.

Kidman receives awards for her role in Baby girla drama about a sexually frustrated corporate executive who begins an affair with a much younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.

“I felt very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being,” Kidman previously said Vanity fair of the role. “I had to go in and out, like I had to put my protection back on. ‘What did I just do? Where have I gone? What have I done?’ ”

Baby girl can be seen in cinemas from December 25.
