‘Nobody Wants This’ Renewed for Season 2 by Netflix with New Showrunners

EXCLUSIVE: Nobody wants this does not live up to its title, because Netflix definitely wants more and renews the popular romantic comedy with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody for a second season. The pickup, unveiled this morning by Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria, comes with a showrunner change to the breakout series, created and executive produced by Erin Foster, who remains the creative voice.

Girls alumni Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan have come on board as executive producers and showrunners for Season 2, leading a writers’ room that has been open for a few weeks. They are joined by Nora Silver, president of Jenni Konner Productions, who will executive produce alongside the duo, as well as returning executive producers including Erin Foster, Sara Foster, Bell, Steven Levitan and Oly Obst. 20th Television is the studio.

The deals with Konner, Kaplan and Silver have already been closed Nobody wants this’The September 26 release is considered one of the strongest launches for a Netflix original comedy series ever. Debuting at No. 2 on its opening weekend, Nobody wants this climbed to No. 1 in its first full week, racked up an impressive 26.2 million views in the first 11 days of release, captured the zeitgeist and started a conversation.

“Create Nobody wants this will forever be a highlight of my career,” said Foster, who was inspired by her personal experiences for the series. “The incredible cast, crew, producers and executives have all made this the show it is today, and to experience the viewers’ response to this series now that it’s out in the world is more than I could ever have imagined. I feel so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it with Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of ever since. Girls… Justice for healthy relationships is the most romantic!”

Foster and Nobody wants this executive producer Craig DiGregorio was announced as co-showrunners when the then-untitled series was officially ordered by Netflix in March 2023. Less than two months later, the WGA strike began, lasting five months. When it was over at the end of September, Nobody wants this had a very tight schedule and filming was scheduled to begin in January so that the series can meet its delivery date.

That’s why I heard it was all hands on deck, with Levitan jumping into the writers’ room for a moment, and comedy veteran Jack Burditt, one of Levitan’s best EPs on Modern familyalso called in to help. Konner and Kaplan are known for their work as executive producers at HBO’s Girls, with Konner serving as co-showrunner with series creator Lena Dunham. Konner and Dunham went on to create and produce the HBO comedy series Campsite. Konner was showrunner at Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales, and her EP credits also include Single drunk woman, generation and the next one Deli Boys And The Bobby Love Story. Kaplan has also executive produced HBOs Six feet underApple TV+s Mr. Corman and Dunham’s upcoming Netflix series Too many.

This is the first collaboration between Konner and Kaplan since then Girls.

“It’s a dream to work on Nobody wants this” said Konner. “Erin is the rare creator with a crystal clear voice and a truly collaborative spirit. I’m a true fan of Erin’s show and also feel so lucky to be back in a room with two of my favorites, Bruce Kaplan and (writer) Sarah Heyward from Girls.”

Kaplan added: “I am incredibly excited to be a part of Season 2 of Nobody wants thiscreated by the hilarious Erin Foster. It is such a unique and beautiful show and I am already having a lot of fun working on it.”

In Nobody wants thisan agnostic podcast host and an unconventional rabbi walk into a party on the rebound. As they walk outside together, the unlikely couple, Joanne (Bell) and Noah (Brody), can tell there is something between them. But possibly also between them, with their different views on life, all the modern obstacles to love, and their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families – including her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) and brother Sasha (Timothy Simons).

The cast also includes Stephanie Faracy, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Michael Hitchcock, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, Shiloh Bearman and Emily Arlook. Danielle Stokdyk and Jeff Morton also serve as executive producers. The series is produced for Netflix by 20th Television in association with Steven Levitan Productions.
