Noni Madueke: Chelsea winger apologises for insulting Wolverhampton in social media post

The evenly matched first half ended 2-2, with Chelsea being pushed back twice by goals from Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Nicolas Jackson had put the visitors ahead in the second minute, but Cole Palmer restored the lead in first-half injury time, with Larsen quick to respond.

Chelsea and Madueke, who has scored four times in his two appearances so far this season, separated Wolves after the break with Joao Felix, who completed his £45million move from Atletico Madrid earlier this week, adding a sixth.

Maresca refuses to blame Madueke for his message and believes he is wise enough to know when he has made a mistake.

He said, “I am the type of person who trusts people. People are mature enough to know what is right and what is not. Noni is mature enough to understand whether what he did was right or not.

“I didn’t know about Noni’s social post before the match.

“I can judge Noni’s performance, it was fantastic. From day one I have said that he is the kind of winger that I really like.

“The best part wasn’t the hat-trick, but the way he defended their counter-attack. That showed the right mentality that I expect from the players.”
