Norvell apologizes after loss to Miami officially eliminates 7-loss FSU from bowl eligibility: “A disappointing result”

Florida State (1-7, 1-6 ACC) saw its three-game winning streak snapped against the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, with the final loss of the year providing the final nail in the coffin for the team’s chances of a miracle run towards bowl eligibility.

FSU trailed 14-7 in the second quarter, but six consecutive scoring drives by the Hurricanes put the game well out of reach before the Seminoles managed to find the end zone again and scored with just 18 seconds left to lead to the final score of the game’s 36. -14 loss – the Seminoles’ fourth by double digits this season.

“Just a disappointing result in that game,” Norvell said after the loss, his first ever in Miami, while standing on the sideline. “The game means so much to this program, to our university, to former players, to all the Florida State Seminoles, and I apologize for the outcome of that game. It’s sad to see that some of the same things have happened: missed opportunities.”

Florida State was defeated by a margin of 445–248, allowing Miami to convert eight of fourteen third down attempts and all three fourth down attempts. FSU, by comparison, was 3-13 on third down and 4-7 on fourth down.

“I thought our boys fought in their preparation this week. I was hoping for a better outcome than what we just saw, but the bottom line is we all have to be better. Like I told our players: it starts with me. I have to be better to them. I have to keep pushing them, guiding them and building confidence in areas where we may be falling short. We need to improve on some routine things that we are not doing well enough.”
