Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon leaves vs. BYU and returns in the fourth quarter

Oklahoma State’s star running back Ollie Gordon II left the team’s game against No. 13 BYU in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. He would later return in the fourth quarter after returning from the locker room.

He entered the game trailing by just three points with about nine minutes to play.

Before his departure, Gordon had been a man possessed, racking up 100 yards on the ground on just thirteen carries. He scored three touchdowns in the first half to help the Pokes to a 21-14 halftime lead. BYU eventually scored 14 unanswered before Gordon left.

Garret Rangel, the team’s new starter in place of seventh-year Alan Bowman’s play this season, left the game early with an apparent injury.

Earlier in the match, Gordon was tackled for a loss and started very slowly. Tackled deep in the third quarter, Gordon remained down for a while but was eventually helped onto and off the field by the team’s medical staff.

Trailing 31-7 against West Virginia earlier this season, Gordon also left the game due to an injury. ESPN analyst Kirk Morrison speculated that these could be Gordon’s last snaps with the team due to possible NFL success.

“I think if I’m Ollie Gordon, I put myself in his shoes: this isn’t him, this is me. I probably played my last play at Oklahoma State,” Morrison said. “His ultimate goal is to reach the National Football League, he won a DOAK Walker and won the Big 12 Frequent Player of the Year last year. He wants to play in the National Football League, right now my health is my concern. I have to watch out for Ollie, and that could be his last appearance at Oklahoma State.
