Ollie Gordon injury update: Oklahoma State RB helped off the field vs. BYU

State of Oklahoma run back Ollie Gordon was helped off the field in the third quarter of the game on Friday evening BYU. He went down with an injury in the quarter after appearing to aggravate an injury from earlier in the evening.

Gordon picked up a two-yard carry with 3:03 left in the game and then stayed on the turf. The trainers came to watch and eventually he walked – albeit cautiously – to the sideline with the help of the staff.

Gordon was in the middle of a monster night when he was injured. He recorded 13 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns, while adding two receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown in the passing game. Oklahoma State trailed 28-21 heading into the fourth quarter, but one Alan Bowman Receiving a touchdown on a trick play quickly evened things up. Gordon later returned with 9:33 to play.

Ollie Gordon, the reigning Doak Walker Award winner, is the nation’s best running back and has had defenses play on him. He entered Friday’s game averaging 64 yards per game, which is in stark contrast to the 123.7 yards he averaged last season.

It was the last notable injury for the Cowboys offense. Quarterback Garret Rangelwho then got the start in place of Bowman Mike Gundy put him on the couch, left in the second quarter with a visible shoulder injury. According to ESPN, he walked back to the locker room while the trainers held his left arm Paul Carcaterraand Bowman came into the game.

“Garret Rangel is in a lot of pain,” Carcaterra said during the ESPN broadcast. “I was walking towards the tunnel where the Oklahoma State locker room is and coaches had to hold that left arm to support the shoulder, it seemed. He walked very carefully.”

Oklahoma State is trying to turn things around after a rough start to Big 12 play. The Cowboys are off to an 0-3 start in conference action and look to play a spoiler against No. 13 BYU, which started Friday night with a 6-0 record.
