One more chance at 90 this summer

Rochester, NY (WHAM) – The past six days have been cooler than normal in Rochester, but overall summer in WNY has been quite warm.

The average temperature in June was 2.2 degrees above normal and the average temperature in July was 1.8 degrees above normal in Rochester. The average in August so far is 0.8 degrees cooler than normal.

As for the 90 degree Fahrenheit temperature, Rochester has had 8 days so far this summer.

A typical season would see 9 days of 90 degree heat. It looks like we have one shot at reaching 90 degrees by Tuesday.

We have to wait until late afternoon with rain and thunderstorms to have a chance for temperatures of 32°C. The weather will cool down a bit towards Wednesday and Thursday, when showers develop.

A cold front will also move through the region, pushing high temperatures back into the 70s on Thursday. Speaking of rain and cooler air, it’s also been a while since the region has had any measurable rain.

We’ve had 5 days in a row without any measurable rain, but it looks like that streak will be over tomorrow. A short, severe thunderstorm is possible well west of Rochester, but widespread severe weather is not expected at this time.

The chance of a few showers will remain until Thursday morning, before it becomes drier again on Thursday afternoon.
