Dillon Gabriel and No. 3 Oregon’s defense survived a close back-and-forth match against No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday night, winning 32-31 at Autzen Stadium.

Atticus Sappington kicked a 19-yard field goal with 1:47 to play to give the Ducks (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) the lead. It was the seventh lead change of the game and the fourth in the second half.

The Buckeyes (5-1, 2-1) drove into Oregon territory in the final minute, but an offensive pass interference penalty knocked them out of field goal range and Ohio State couldn’t answer.

Gabriel passed for 341 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a 27-yard score to lead the Ducks.

Oregon vs. Ohio State score updates

The Ducks kicked the go-ahead field goal with 1:47 to play and then held on for the win when the Buckeyes ran out of time to get within field goal range.

Defensive tackle Derrick Harmon met Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins head-on at the line of scrimmage and ripped the ball out of his hands for the strip recovery and fumble. Oregon ball at the Buckeyes’ 28 with 6:39 to play in the first quarter.

The Ducks could only get 18 yards and one first down on six plays before their opening drive stalled at their own 43.

The Buckeyes scored on the game’s opening possession, when quarterback Will Howard reached the end zone on a 1-yard run. The drive included a fourth-down conversion by Ohio State on its own when Howard ran to the needed yardage.

The Ducks’ defensive team is on crutches on the sidelines, days after reportedly suffering an injury during practice. He was listed as doubtful earlier Saturday.

The Ducks won the toss and advanced to the second half. Kick-off is in a few minutes.
