Padres vs. Dodgers score, live updates: NLDS Game 5 is a winner-take-all matchup between NL West rivals

After competing in the NL West all season and being two of the best teams in the National League, it comes down to one game for the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

Game 5 is being played at Dodger Stadium and this series has had everything from fans throwing trash on the field, to Dave Roberts accusing Manny Machado of throwing a ball at the Los Angeles dugout, to Fernando Tatis Jr. who had an incredible series Shohei Ohtani let his emotions run wild.

The Padres won eight of the thirteen regular season meetings between these teams in 2024 and have Yu Darvish on the mound against Yoshinobu Yamamoto in this game. Darvish played three innings against the Dodgers in the regular season; he had a 1.72 ERA over 15 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and six walks in those games. He also pitched seven innings and struck out three in San Diego’s 10-2 win in Game 2.

Yamamoto made two starts against the Padres early this season, including the season-opening series in South Korea, where he lasted just one inning. In Game 1 of this series against the Padres, he pitched five innings and allowed five runs.

The winner of Friday’s Game 5 will host the Mets, who topped the Phillies in their NLDS matchup, in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
