Parts of Metro Detroit under frost advisories; cooler fall temperatures ahead

Parts of Metro Detroit are under a freeze advisory as wind chills settle into southeastern Michigan early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

A frost advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. for some of the southeastern counties, including Oakland County and Washtenaw County, NWS Detroit announced on X.

If the advisory is in effect, temperatures could drop below 30 degrees and cause frost, according to the weather service.

Daily temperature drops should only decrease from here as the weather cools deeper into the fall season, said Steve Freitag, a meteorologist with the weather service.

“This is pretty much a sign of fall and we’re pretty much on track for the first time this has happened here,” Freitag said.

The frost can damage sensitive outdoor vegetation, including exposed plants.

Metro Detroit also faces falling fall temperatures starting this week, with a high of 63 on Thursday and a low of around 46, according to the weather service.

Friday will be warmer with a high of 76 degrees and a low of 52, followed by a high of 66 degrees on Saturday with a low of 48.

Rainier days are also planned from Saturday evening, when there is a 60% chance of showers in the region. Sunday will also bring showers with a high of 61 and a low of 42.

The mercury will drop again on Monday and Tuesday, when readings are not expected to peak until the 50s and dip into the 30s at night.
