Pat McAfee appreciated Shannon Sharpe’s handling of the sex tape debacle

Shannon Sharpe’s eventful Wednesday earned him a number of compliments.

A day after he broadcast a sexual encounter on Instagram Live, claimed he had been hacked and later confessed to the accidental act on his podcast “Nightcap,” ESPN colleague Pat McAfee stopped what he was doing to praise the man known as “Unc.”

“Josh Allen looks like he’s got it on his back… I’m not talking about getting it on his back like Shannon Sharpe on IG Live,” McAfee said Thursday on the “Pat McAfee Show,” putting a spin on the mid-Bills take. “Shout out to Unc, by the way. Unc, hey, you nailed it on ‘Nightcap,’ we’re all very grateful that you did that instead of some fake ‘I got hacked!’ Impossible. We all knew it was impossible because it happened, whenever the ‘hack’ happened.”

The minute-and-a-half-long video, which has been making the rounds on social media, showed the ceiling of a room before the phone was flipped over, but some racy noises were also heard.

“Not seen anything, not seen anything, heard a lot… it was a podcast,” McAfee told his on-air cohorts. “It could have been voice actors, we don’t know, he didn’t say it was, but, uncle, how do you deal with it.”

“I don’t think anyone has ever thought of that, just an audio-only sex tape — it seems pretty good to me,” he added.

The entire debacle was enough for Sharpe to host an emergency episode of his podcast “Nightcap” with Chad Ohocino, a former NFL player who recently criticized Sharpe for what he saw as unprofessional behavior.

“Of course I’m embarrassed. For someone who is extremely, extremely private to have one of your most intimate details – the audio – played out to the whole world, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons,” Sharpe told Ochocino, who seemed to be enjoying a bit of schadenfreude.

Thousands of people watched Sharpe’s Instagram clip, which he claimed was part of a hack.

“There are a lot of people who rely on Shannon to always be professional, and I always try to be professional, even when I’m behind closed doors. … I’m very disappointed in myself, not for the act. I think there are millions and billions of people of consenting age who participate in activities, but to have the audio out, I’m disappointed in myself. I’ve let a lot of people down.”

However, McAfee was not among this group.

“I hope uncle isn’t embarrassed by the situation — don’t make it sound like that — he’s going to feel pretty good after all this,” McAfee said.

Sharpe was absent from Thursday’s episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” but according to TMZ, he is not expected to face any punishment for his social media gaffe.
