Patrick Mahomes calls burglary at his Kansas City home ‘frustrating’

Patrick Mahomes is speaking out for the first time about the burglary of his home in the Kansas City area last month.

During the team’s media presence on Wednesday, November 13, the 29-year-old NFL star spoke about the incident but remained tight-lipped on the details regarding the crime, which took place at his home in Belton, Missouri , around midnight on Sunday, October 6.

β€œIt’s obviously frustrating and disappointing, but I can’t go into too many details because the investigation is ongoing,” Mahomes said.

The Chiefs quarterback added that it was “something you don’t really want to happen to anyone.”

When asked if he or his family β€” including wife Brittany, daughter Sterling, 3, and son Bronze, 23 months β€” were home during the event, Mahomes said he couldn’t talk about those details but that it was “at some point moment’ was the case. it would be ‘talked about’.

The crime occurred less than 24 hours before the Chiefs took on the New Orleans Saints Monday night football game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

According to a police report obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, November 12, officers from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the athlete’s eight-acre estate after Mahomes’ security guard called the police.

The police report shows that there was no burglary in the home.

Less than 48 hours later, at 7:33 p.m. on Oct. 7 during the Chiefs-Saints game, a burglary occurred at the home of his Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce in Leawood, Kansas, according to a police report obtained by PEOPLE.

In that burglary, Leawood police reported that $20,000 was taken and a back door was broken.

Patrick and Brittany purchased the lot on which they built their “dream home” in September 2020, according to Architectural summary. In the summer of 2023, the Mahomes family moved to the compound, about a half-hour drive from Kansas City.

In addition to the residence, it features a 50-yard soccer field with custom Mahomes logo, a swimming pool with a swim-up bar and a par-3 golf hole.
