Patriots OLB Matthew Judon appears to be venting his frustrations on the sidelines amid a contractual impasse

Matt Judon’s desire for a new deal appears to have caused his frustrations to boil over, which can be seen throughout Patriots Nation. on video.

Judon, who sat out the first full-pads session of training camp on Monday, had a lively exchange with first-year head coach Jerod Mayo that ended with a seemingly frustrated Judon walking off the court. According to multiple reports, Judon also had lively exchanges with executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and director of player personnel Matt Groh.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported Monday that the sides have been in talks and that offers have been made recently, but that this has obviously not helped.

The four-time Pro Bowler has been to Patriots camp, but he wants a contract adjustment. Judon has said publicly that he doesn’t feel his current deal, which pays him $7.5 million, reflects his value. And up until Monday, he was participating in practice. But with the addition of pads to the equation, Judon sat out, likely because he knows he has to protect his most important asset: his health.

Judon’s decision to sit on an overturned garbage can and watch his teammates do defensive drills drew the ire of Patriots management, leading to an enthusiastic exchange.

The Patriots have more than $43 million in salary cap space, which is the second-most in the NFL, according to Over the Cap. New England signed safety Kyle Dugger, safety Jabrill Peppers, running back Rhamondre Stevenson, defensive lineman Christian Barmore, offensive tackle Mike Onwenu and others to extensions this offseason.

Judon is coming off a 2023 season in which he played in just four games (although he recorded four sacks) due to a biceps tear.
