It’s been ten days since the New England Patriots last took the football field, which was a poor performance on Thursday Night Football. After a strong work week, including a bonus day on Monday, they will look to right the ship and get back to .500 per year.

Standing in the way, however, are the Super Bowl contenders the San Francisco 49ers, who are themselves struggling with back-to-back losses.

First quarter

The Patriots called tails and lost the coin toss, putting Jacoby Brissett and the offense on the field first. Three consecutive touches from Rhamondre Stevenson to open the game set the opening chains in motion, before Brissett converted the ensuing third down to Pop Douglas on a rollout to right. Across midfield, New England stalled and then decided to punt after the postponement of game 4th and 3.

Bryce Baringer’s kick started the 49ers’ first drive at their own seven-yard line. Brock Purdy converted with his legs to open the third, shortly after finding Brandon Aiyuk 38 yards downfield. On the next two third downs, Purdy’s mobility flashed again as he used his legs to move the chains before moving outside the pocket and finding George Kittle to move inside the 10-yard line. Facing 3rd and goal, Purdy’s pass to Jennings fell incomplete with Marcus Jones in coverage. Jake Moody’s 22-yard field goal was good. (Patriots 0: 3 49ers)

Injury update: C David Andrews (shoulder) is questionable to return.

New England’s first play was a run to Stevenson, who was looking for a fourth straight game and lost its second straight game.

The Niners took control of the Patriots’ 30-yard line after the turnover and picked up one first down, but New England’s defense held firm and forced another field goal. (Patriots 0:6 49ers)
