Pelicans host Bulls in season opener on Fox 8 and GCSEN

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The New Orleans Pelicans tip off their 2024-2025 NBA season tonight at the Smoothie King Center against the Chicago Bulls, and fans can watch all the action on Fox 8 and the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network ( GCSEN).

The match will be broadcast live on Fox 8 and GCSEN, with coverage starting at 6pm with the Fox 8 Live tailgate show, followed by a pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and fans can stick around for highlights and analysis from the post-game show.

Cox Cable customers in New Orleans will find the Gulf Coast Sports Network tonight on channel 129 before it moves to its permanent home on channel 10 starting Friday. For antenna users, the Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network is on Channel 7.

Antonio Daniels, one of the voices of the Pelicans, says the new broadcast partnership will bring the team to more homes in the Gulf South.

“Being a Pelicans fan, I’m incredibly excited,” Daniels said. “This team is exciting and now you get the opportunity to reach more homes. This fanbase is already incredibly passionate, so now you get the opportunity to grow that.”

Daniels says the Pelicans’ hard-working, blue-collar ethos is a reflection of the city itself.

“This is a blue-collar town with hard-working people, and that’s what you want to see on the field: someone who reflects your lifestyle and puts everything on the line,” he said.

While the Pelicans will showcase their stars this season, including Zion Williamson, the team will also lean on emerging talents like Trey Murphy III, who recently signed a four-year extension worth $112 million.

Dejounte Murray, who missed training on Tuesday for personal reasons, returned to the team on Wednesday morning. Williamson, who was absent Tuesday due to illness, was absent Wednesday and his status remains up in the air.

Head Coach Willie Green has kept the starting lineup under wraps, but sideline reporter Andrew Lopez speculates that fans can expect more versatility.

“You’ll see some smaller lineups this year,” Lopez said. “With the mix of players we have, you can go bigger or smaller depending on the match.”

Lopez described Brandon Ingram as the standout of training camp in Nashville.

“He looks fantastic. He’s getting more and more threes and getting on the court when he wants to,” Lopez said. “Brandon was truly the MVP of Nashville. He’s ready to go.”

Despite some uncertainties surrounding player availability, Daniels is confident in the Pelicans’ chances in tonight’s game.

“The prediction for the game is that the Pelicans win at home. They have done a fantastic job over the years and I expect nothing less,” he said.
