Pete Alonso has a huge NLCS Game 5 for Mets with a home run

Every game for the remainder of the NLCS could potentially be Pete Alonso’s last game against the Mets, but the soon-to-be free agent clearly has no intention of playing quietly, if at all.

Alonso’s four runs scored Friday night were highlighted by a huge three-run homer in the first inning of what turned out to be a season-extending 12-6 victory over the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLCS.

Just as Francisco Lindor had sparked the Mets’ previous victory with a leadoff homer in the first inning of Game 2, Alonso hit a three-run blast over the wall in center off Dodgers righty Jack Flaherty for an early cushion on Friday night.

Lindor and Brandon Nimmo scored for Alonso after reaching a single and a walk, respectively.

It marked an early step in the right direction for the Mets after the Dodgers grabbed a 3-1 series lead with a 10-2 drubbing a night earlier.

It was Alonso’s fourth home run of the postseason, tying Mark Vientos for the team lead, but it was his first in six games since Game 3 against the Phillies in the NL Division Series.

The home run also capped a collective 0-for-17 skid by the Mets with runners in scoring position.

Alonso entered the game batting .133 (2-for-15) with no extra base hits or RBIs in the first four games of the series.

The four-time All-Star also walked to score the Mets’ five-run third inning, and an inning later entered the game for the third time after being sacked by Dodgers reliever Brent Honeywell.

Alonso added a bloop single to center in the eighth and scored on Starling Marte’s RBI single — his fourth hit of the game — for a 12-6 lead that lasted.
