PFB picks: Predictions for Oklahoma State’s Week 13 game against Texas Tech

The 2024 season has flown by and has lasted an excruciatingly long time. That kind of paradox is perhaps the most logical way to look at the Cowboys’ 0-7 start to Big 12 play.

Oklahoma State concludes its home stretch with a matchup against Texas Tech at 2:30 PM Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium. It will be Senior Day for Brennan Presley, Alan Bowman and other Cowboys. Tech travels to Stillwater at 6-4 on the season and 4-3 in Big 12 play.

The Red Raiders have been an example of how crazy this conference has been in 2024, as Tech went from finishing Iowa State’s undefeated season in Ames to returning to Lubbock and losing to Colorado by 14. The Cowboys… well, things didn’t go well. This is how we see Saturday’s match going.

Score: Oklahoma State 31, Texas Tech 28

OSU MVP: Brennan Presley

Uniform: Black (Patriot Pete)-orange-black

Thoughts: Okay, stay with me here. If not now, when? It is the last home game of the season and the teams led by Mike Gundy have come out of the bye weeks well. The Cowboys’ best Big 12 performance this season came in a bye as they traveled to Provo. Additionally, Texas Tech’s defense is suspect, ranking last in the league in points allowed per game and 15th in yards allowed per game. (Don’t even look at how Tech’s offensive stats compare to OSU’s defensive stats.) So I’ll say it again – if not now, then when? As good as Colorado has looked lately, this feels like OSU’s last chance to get from 0 in conference wins, and I think the Cowboys will find a way to make it happen.

Score: Texas Tech 35, Oklahoma State 31

OSU MVP: Brennan Presley

Thoughts: I’m at the point where I don’t know what to think anymore. I can see a scenario where OSU comes to play the seniors and tries to salvage some favor with the home crowd to squeeze out a win. I see a very real scenario where Alan Bowman is playing his best game as a cowboy. That said, the Red Raiders have the best scoring offense in the Big 12. They also have the worst scoring defense in the league, but right ahead of them are the Cowboys. This could be a hard-fought match, or it could be an ugly one. Or both.

Score: Texas Tech 45, Oklahoma State 31

O.S.U MVP: Ollie Gordon

Uniform: Orange (brand) – orange – white

Thoughts: At least publicly, Mike Gundy hasn’t changed anything during the bye week. So why would the outcome change? The Red Raiders scored 35.5 points per game. Both defenses are bad, so the Pokes were able to score some points (finally), but at the end of the day, Tech is still better on both sides of the ball. Tech’s poor defense should make for a fun day watching Ollie, probably for the last time at Boone Pickens Stadium.
