Philadelphia Eagles vs. Green Bay Packers Week 1: How to watch and more

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Eagles the 2024 regular season starts tonight against the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Eagles ended the 2023 season in disastrous fashion, losing six of their last seven games. The collapse led to changes in the coaching staff. We get our first real look at Kellen Moore’s offense and Vic Fangio’s defense against Green Bay with all of the team’s starters tonight, along with several other storylines.

Here’s how to watch Eagles-Packers and what else you need to know.

How to watch Eagles-Packers

The Eagles-Packers game in Week 1 in Brazil will be the first NFL game played in South America and will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.

But don’t worry, if you live in the Philadelphia area, you don’t need a Peacock subscription to watch the Birds. As long as you live in the Delaware Valley, the game will be broadcast on NBC10, starting at 8:15 p.m.

If you’re an Eagles fan who traveled to Brazil but can’t make it to Arena Corinthians to watch the game, it’ll be on CazéTV, streaming on YouTube, Amazon Prime, Twice and Samsung TV Plus. The game will also be on RedeTV and ESPN Brazil.

Fans outside of Philadelphia can also stream the game via NFL+ if you don’t have a Peacock subscription.

Storylines to watch

Tonight is the first time we see Eagles quarterback Jalen hurts, new running back Saquon Barkley and fellow skill position players AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in Moore’s offense. Hurts, Barkley, Brown and Smith did not play in the preseason.

Philadelphia’s offense took a step back in 2023, especially late in the season, becoming boring and predictable. Moore will look to turn that around in 2024 and add some creativity with movement and different ways to get Philadelphia’s weapons the ball in space.

It will also be the first match without future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce after he retired. The Eagles have been preparing for this moment for years and are hoping that Cam Jurgens is the man to take the reins. All eyes will be on the Eagles’ offensive line in São Paulo for the first game of the post-Kelce era.

On the other side of the ball, Fangio’s defense will get an early test against quarterback Jordan Love, who emerged last season and landed a huge contract, and the rest of Green Bay’s offense. The Packers stunned the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round of the playoffs last season and nearly defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

A key to slowing Love down will be former Georgia Bulldogs — Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter — especially after Fletcher Cox, another Eagles legend, retired with Kelce.

Eagles-Packers Betting Odds

The Eagles-Packers betting line has changed since it opened. The Birds opened as 1.5-point favorites with some bookmakers, but that number has since increased.

On FanDuel Sportsbook, the Eagles are favored by 2.5 points with an over/under of 48.5. The Eagles are -152 on the money line.

Eagles viewing party at Lincoln Financial Field

Despite the birds flying south to Brazil, Eagles fans head to Lincoln Financial Field to watch the season opener tonight.

The Eagles are hosting a watch party at the Linc and it’s sold out, according to the team. The Linc doors open at 6pm for the watch party.

Eagles debut new uniform

When the Eagles take the field in Brazil, they will have a new uniform combination against the Packers.

The Birds wear white jerseys with black pants, white socks and black helmets.

The Eagles’ kit reflects the colors of Corinthians Paulista, a Brazilian professional football team that plays at Arena Corinthians.

The Packers will wear their green shirts with yellow pants against the Eagles. The color green is worn by Palmeiras, the most hated rival of the Corinthians.

Brazil tightens security

After a number of players, including Eagles cornerback Darius Slayexpressed his concerns about playing in Brazil The government of the state of São Paulo said it will improve security.

The São Paulo state government has announced it will deploy hundreds of police officers and escort team buses for Friday’s Eagles-Packers game.

Gun violence and crime rates in Brazil are among the highest in Latin America. The Sao Paulo metropolis has also seen a wave of cell phone thefts.

Eagles injury report

The Eagles will be without two defenders against the Packers.

Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and linebacker Devin White were both ruled out. Rodgers is nursing a hand injury and White is nursing an ankle injury.

With Rodgers sidelined, Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell will start alongside Darius Slay.
