Phillies media in total meltdown after Mets loss

The Phillies came into the NLDS like Rocky Balboa and went out like a bunch of Spider Ricos.

And the meltdowns in the City of Brotherly Love are living up to their reputation after the Phillies flopped against the Mets in the NLDS and were dismantled by their rivals in four games.

“You know what this hurts the most? You lost to the Mets, man,” said Hunter Brody, a Philadelphia sports personality. “You lost to a team that had Hawk Tuah throw out a first pitch. You lost to a team with a purple damn monster (Grimace) jumping up and down. Their stars came out.”

It’s been a tough year for Philadelphia sports teams, with the Eagles, Phillies and 76ers all suffering disappointing postseason exits, two of them coming against rival New York teams.

The Knicks eliminated the 76ers in the first round of the NBA playoffs, albeit as favorites, and the Mets added to the misery by upsetting the NL East champion Phillies.

While the 76ers lost a hard-fought series to a higher-ranked team, the Fightin’ Phils proved to be anything but.

They went out with a relative whimper after an anemic run and a horrible bullpen.

“When I’m looking for something to hold on to, I can say something: ‘You know what, they played great and lost to a better team, but next year will be better, and we know it, they’re coming. I don’t have that feeling,” said Michael Barkann of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Analyst Ricky Bottalico agreed, predicting an awkward offseason for the franchise.

“I have a feeling there will be a lot of changes. I have a feeling a lot of fans will be upset about some of these changes, but I think they will be the right changes. They go up and down the ladder and go down the rungs,” Bottalico said. “That’s not a good sign when you look at the World Series, the NLCS, now just the NLDS. This is a team that was good enough to win a World Series the last three years, and you know what you came up with? Nothing. You came up empty and I don’t think there is a single fan in this region who is happy with the way this season ended, and no one should be. This is a team that must go beyond the NLDS.”

Both the NBC show and Brody hammered on a high-powered Phillies lineup that looked quite weak against the Mets’ pitching, with the team scoring twelve runs in the four games but only five in the three losses.

Stars like Kyle Schwarber (2-for-16) and Trea Turner (3-for-15) didn’t show up when it mattered, and Alec Bohm (1-for-13), JT Realmuto (0-for-11) , Bryson Stott (2-for-11) and Brandon Marsh (1-for-13) apparently started their vacation early without telling anyone.

“If you leave Bryce Harper on second base after a leadoff double in the sixth, shame on you. If you leave Nick Castellanos at third base because JT Realmuto can’t figure out how to get a hit in four games, he hasn’t gotten a hit in the NLDS and he’s swinging 2-0 pitches with lazy pop-ups that don’t. do not move runners. It is unacceptable,” Brody said. ‘Trea Turner is a shame. That contract will bite you in the ass for years to come. …And don’t even get me started on how much he sucks on his plate. What are you waving?”

He added: “We had to sit on the bench (Bohm)… We had to sit on the bench with him. … Your catcher doesn’t exist. … Our best offense is dribblers to (Mark) Vientos. Is that the best you have offensively?”
