Phoenix plays season opener at Leonard-less LA

The Phoenix Suns will make their debut in the 2024-2025 NBA season against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. This is the first of four scheduled meetings between Pacific Division rivals.

The game kicks off at 7:00 PM MST and will air on ESPN and Arizona’s Family (3TV).

This will be the second season in which the Suns’ Big 3 players, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, will co-lead the team. Last season, Beal’s lower back injury sidelined him for the Suns’ first nine games.

LA is led by former MVP and 16-year veteran guard James Harden, in his second season with the team.

Clippers open season in new Intuit Dome without Leonard

The first of the Suns’ two season-opening road games in LA will be at the Clippers’ new home arena Intuit Dome. Located in the LA suburb of Inglewood, it leaves the Clippers’ previous home court, which had been shared with the Lakers since 2000, at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown LA.

The Clippers will be without their biggest star and two-time champion Kawhi Leonard, who is out indefinitely due to his recurring knee problem. Devin Booker said Tuesday during the Suns’ final training camp practice that the Clippers remain a “well-rounded” roster in Leonard’s absence, and implied that Harden’s scoring ability is still a force to watch on defense.

ESPN profiled Harden leading his hometown team Clippers without Leonard hours before the Suns-Clippers tipped off.

Suns, Clippers injury reports

The Suns’ sharpshooters, Grayson Allen (right Achilles tendon soreness) and Damion Lee (hamstring), are likely to play. Their backup forward Josh Okogie (hamstring) is out.

In addition to Leonard being out to LA, their big Mo Bamba (knee) is out and PJ Tucker won’t be with the team moving forward.
