Phoenix Suns’ seven-game winning streak was snapped by Fox, Sacramento Kings in OT

play

The Phoenix Suns (8-2) lost in overtime 127-118 to the Sacramento Kings (6-4) on Sunday, snapping their seven-game win streak.

It was the Suns’ first game without their injured leading scorer Kevin Durant, who will be sidelined for the next two weeks due to a left calf injury.

Bradley Beal scored a Suns-high 28 points and added eight rebounds. Devin Booker had 23 and a game-high 12 assists, and Tyus Jones produced his season-high 22 points and matched his career-best six 3s.

The Kings’ DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 34, Domantas Sabonis had 20 points and 12 boards before fouling out. Keegan Murray had 14 points and 14 boards. De’Aaron Fox scored eight of his 21 total points in OT and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Suns next play the Utah Jazz on Tuesday at 7 p.m., their first game of the NBA Cup West Group B regular season tournament.

Phoenix and Sacramento are tied 111-111 heading into overtime.

Devin Booker (23 points) made a tying free throw on an off-ball foul called with 3.4 seconds left on an inbound pass from the middle of the court after a Suns timeout with 3.9 seconds left to go. After the Kings’ Keegan Murray (14 points, 13 rebounds) tip-in, the Suns had possession to make a shot and the foul on Sacramento occurred on the next play.

The officials conducted a game review and ruled that the off-ball foul gave the Suns one free throw, plus an extra possession. Booker missed a jump shot on the ensuing possession.

Grayson Allen scored a 30-foot three-pointer, assisted by Tyus Jones, to beat the shot clock, giving Phoenix an 82-79 lead in the closing seconds of the third.

Devin Booker, Tyus Jones and Bradley Beal each have 16 points and lead the Suns after three quarters. The Kings’ Domantas Sabonis has game-highs 19 and 10 rebounds, and Kevin Huerter’s tally is 17 with seven rebounds and four assists.

The Suns went on a 10-3 run in the middle of the third.

Phoenix still trails at the half, 60-53. Sacramento ended the second half on a 10-2 run.

Devin Booker and Tyus Jones each have 11 points, and Bradley Beal has 10 to boost their scoring in the absence of Kevin Durant (ankle) for the Suns.

The Kings’ Kevin Huerter has a game-high 14 points, Domantas Sabonis has 12 and DeMar DeRozan has eight.

Phoenix made a solid contribution off the bench, scoring 13 points versus Sacramento’s reserves, with a score of 12. Mason Plumlee (eight rebounds, four assists) had two impressive assists in a row early in the second quarter. They were off the wing to Bradley Beal on a backdoor and a no-look behind his head to Ryan Dunn for a 3 after Plumlee’s offensive rebound from Ryan Dunn’s previous miss from deep.

Phoenix trails Sacramento, 36-31, after the opening period.

Devin Booker has eight points and five assists, and his defensive back Tyus Jones has nine for the Suns.

The Kings’ top player, Domantas Sabonis, dominated in the frontcourt, scoring 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. He has half of the Kings’ 20 points in the paint compared to the Suns’ 10.

The first quarter was tight, with eleven lead changes and five draws. But the Kings went on an 8-0 run to create their largest lead of eight points before Bradley Beal hit a three-point shot in the final seconds.

Suns’ Dunn will start for the injured Durant

Phoenix rookie forward Ryan Dunn is the replacement starter for Kevin Durant (out, calf) at fourth against Sacramento. Dunn joins Devin Booker, point guard Tyus Jones, Bradley Beal and center Jusuf Nurkic as the starting five.

Sacramento will start Fox, DeRozan, Sabonis, Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter.

Suns big Nurkic questionable, Kings injury report

Phoenix coach Mike Budenholzer said during his pregame media availability that starting center Jusuf Nurkic (left ankle) is an in-game decision. Nurkic was listed as questionable on the Suns’ pregame injury report. Ryan Dunn (ankle) has been upgraded from probable to available. Collin Gillespie (right ankle) is out.

The Kings’ Devin Carter (left shoulder surgery) and Orlando Robinson (left MCL knee) are out.
