This article will be updated as more information becomes available.

An incident involving a single aircraft was reported at the Las Cruces Air and Space Expo on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m.

The incident resulted in the death of the pilot, the plane’s only passenger, New Mexico State Police Trooper Amanda Richards said.

Andy Hume, director of Las Cruces International Airport, shared few details at a news conference Sunday, saying only that the incident was being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.

Hume said the family of the pilot, who he said was a performer at the Expo’s plane show, had been notified of the incident.

First responders and airport rescue teams responded to the downed plane. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, according to a statement from the city of Las Cruces.

K-FOX TV reported that the Expo was canceled after the incident.
