Thibaut Courtois—9: Superman – kept Madrid in the game with some crucial saves.

Lucas Vazquez—3: Poor performance with Stuttgart exploiting the space behind Lucas several times. Substituted at half-time.

Dani Carvajal—5.5: Started the game as a central defender but was quickly demoted to fullback after the break. Much improved in his natural position.

Antonio Rüdiger—8: Scored the decisive goal for the 2-1 in the 83rd minute thanks to a header from a corner by Luka Modric.

Ferland Mendy—6: Defensively solid, but in attack it was no threat.

Tchouameni—7: Like a lot of the team, had a poor first half but a much better second half. Played a brilliant first time pass to Rodrygo to help set up the first goal.

Fede Valverde—6.5: Started the game as an advanced #8 on the right side of midfield and ended the game as a #6 defensive midfielder. Looked his best in the deeper position.

Judas Bellingham—8: Madridistas will be relieved to see Jude back on the pitch. He didn’t miss a beat on his return from injury and was one of the best players on the pitch. Needed more defensive help from his teammates on the left of midfield.

Rodrygo—7: Provided the assist for the opening goal for Kylian Mbappe and dribbled smoothly throughout the evening.

Vinicius Junior—6: It wasn’t the Brazilian’s best game, but he still managed to make three important passes.

Kylian Mbappé—7: Scored his fifth goal in seven games and his first goal for Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Replacements:

Luka Modric—7: Replaced Tchouameni in midfield. Kept an assist for the decisive goal in the final minutes of the game with another perfectly delivered corner kick.

Arda Guler—6: Some passing scenes where he was unlucky enough to have his teammates watching him as he was in a dangerous scoring position.

Fran Garcia—6: Another solid guest performance with his energy and dynamism providing a new threat to Stuttgart’s defence.

Endrick—8: Ancelotti called the teenager brave, saying in no uncertain terms that he has “balls” — his goal was a case in point. Scored from almost 25 yards out in a 3v2 counter-attack with Vini and Kylian both options either side of him. Took the road less traveled and his confidence was rewarded.
