Poland 1-3 Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo scores 133rd international goal in Nations League win

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 133rd goal for Portugal as they defeated Poland in the Nations League.

Captain Ronaldo hit the crossbar from close range before Portugal took the lead through Bernardo Silva. The Manchester City player came in after a knockdown of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

Al-Nassr striker Ronaldo doubled the lead when he rifled home a rebound after Rafael Leao hit the post after a fantastic run.

It was Ronaldo’s third Nations League goal in three games, after failing to score once at the 2024 European Championship.

He was replaced by Diogo Jota in the 63rd minute.

Portugal looked comfortable in Warsaw until Piotr Zielinski hit a shot to give Poland hope.

But Southampton defender Jan Bednarek scored a late own goal, slotting Nuno Mendes’ cross into his own net, securing Portugal’s victory.

The hosts handed an international debut to Salford-born Maxi Oyedele. The 19-year-old, whose mother is Polish, joined Legia Warsaw from Manchester United this summer after spending last season on loan at Forest Green.

Portugal, who have won all three Nations League matches, will play Scotland – who have lost all three – at Hampden Park on Tuesday.
