Police shoot suspect barricaded at Reno’s Lakemill Lodge

One person was rushed to the hospital in unknown condition after being shot by police at the Lakemill Lodge near downtown Reno Thursday morning.

Police activity began just before 7 a.m. on October 31, just hours after the motel closed due to a failed health inspection, forcing all residents to leave.

Reno police say the suspect was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

The shooting protocol for the regional officers has been established.

The streets surrounding the Lakemill Lodge, including portions of Lake and Mill streets, will be closed for several hours while investigators complete their investigation.

Northern Nevada Public Health and the city of Ren conducted a joint inspection Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into code violations. During the inspection, authorities found human waste and used syringes in the stairwells of common areas.

Rapid testing showed the syringes had positive results for fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin, a health district spokesperson said.

Because the communal stairwells are the main entry points into the building, all residents were evacuated and the motel was closed until further notice.

The health district said the Lakemill Lodge will remain closed until recovery efforts are complete and officials determine it is safe to reopen.

Officials and community partners are working to move residents of Lakemill Lodge into temporary housing while the motel is remediated.
