The hosts started the strongest, taking the lead in the seventh minute when Manchester United team-mates Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot combined in the penalty area before the latter slotted past Dominik Livakovic. After a sustained spell of possession, Portugal doubled their lead in the 34th minute when Ronaldo turned home Nuno Mendes’ delicious cross to set up another milestone. The visitors pulled within four minutes of the break when Dalot fired home a sliding effort from Borna Sosa. Both sides balanced each other out somewhat in the second half as Portugal secured three points in Group A1, with Scotland next up on Sunday.
