Let’s go to the locker room and see what the New York Giants players said after Sunday’s 17-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Daniel Jones on various things…

His interception in the red zone:

“Trying to get the ball to the back of the end zone, got hit, had to throw it sooner or get the ball down.”

Scoring only 7 points:

“It’s very disappointing – I just couldn’t sustain the drive, execute it, get into the rhythm and frustrating – I feel like we’ve taken steps and progressed as an attack. Obviously we didn’t do that today… it’s very frustrating not to score more than seven points.”

Not having an explosive game:

“It makes it tough. It makes it difficult when you have to do that in this competition. I think it’s a credit to their defense, their plan and their plan to prevent some of these plays, but we have to execute them and find a way to generate some of them.

Struggles in prime time (Jones is 1-14 as a starting quarterback in such games):

I’m just focused on winning games, playing well and winning games. Tough tonight, but we still have a chance next week and that’s what we have to do: focus on that and get ready to go.

Brian Burns on the defensive game…

In addition to the Giants’ defensive play, edge defender Brian Burns thought his group could have done more.

The Giants left their rush lanes during Joe Burrow’s 47-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and couldn’t come up with a Chase Brown fumble that squirted out of bounds before the two-minute warning, leading to Cincinnati’s final touchdown.

“It’s frustrating and there are more actions we can take and more things we can do to change the game. If we want to be an elite defense and live up to who we say we are, we have to make those moves,” Burns said. “When that ball came out (the Bengals’ fumble late in the fourth quarter that the Giants didn’t recover before going out of bounds), that’s a ball we’ve got to get. It’s that simple. We had the chance. It was on the ground.”

Jalin Hyatt on missed opportunities…

“We had chances. We have to hit them. You only get a few of them. We didn’t hit them today. We need to go back to the drawing board and figure it out.

“We’ve been doing this since OTAs. When we go out here, when it matters and when it counts, we just can’t connect. That’s something we can’t have, especially on a Sunday night. Like I said, we have to go back to the drawing board. We have to figure it out and be ready for the Eagles next week.”

Jon Runyan on wrestling in the red zone…

“It’s really unacceptable. Straight up, we just don’t end up in the red zone. It’s something we’ve talked about. In the last two or three weeks since the last home game against the Cowboys, I think we’ve been in the red zone about four times. We’re not going to win games if we continue to rely on making field goals. When we get there, we have to put the ball in the right zone. I know this home crowd wants to see us win a game. They’re tired of watching us on TV when we leave. We have to score points at home.”
