A disturbance moving east across the Northern Tier will produce storms throughout the day.

Strong heat and humidity will provide ample fuel for additional storm formation in the Midwest and Great Lakes tonight. The greatest concentration of storms will likely be near the system’s cold front, which extends from the central Plains to the upper Great Lakes.

A Warning for severe thunderstorms is in effect in northeast Ohio, northeast Illinois, northern Indiana and southeast Wisconsin. Cities such as Chicago, Gary and South Bend, Ind. are included.

The Storm Prediction Center has a Slight risk for severe storms covering Michigan, most of Wisconsin, eastern Iowa, northern Illinois, northern Indiana and northern Ohio. This includes Chicago, Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wis., Detroit and Cleveland. Isolated areas of severe weather could develop across most of the rest of the Midwest, southeastern Nebraska and northeastern Kansas.

Today’s storms will mainly consist of damaging winds and hail, though there is also a chance for a tornado or two around the Great Lakes.

As the storm system moves toward the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, more severe storms could develop across southern New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Ohio Valley.
