Precipitation – possibly snow – likely for Thanksgiving in the Harrisburg area: Forecasters

Forecasters say the Harrisburg area can expect some wet weather through Thanksgiving weekend, with a small chance of that precipitation turning to snow just in time for Turkey Day itself.

The National Weather Service (NWS) seven-day forecast currently calls for plenty of ups and downs over the next week. Today’s partly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-50s will repeat Monday before the passage of a cold front Monday night into Tuesday morning brings gusty winds and a slight chance of rain, the NWS said.

Wednesday will see continued windy conditions with highs in the mid-40s before a low-pressure system moves across central Pennsylvania just in time for Thanksgiving.

“Much uncertainty remains” in the forecast, the NWS State College office wrote Sunday, but the chance remains that winter weather could impact Thanksgiving travel.

Snow during the holidays will likely be limited to mountainous areas in the north of the region, with rain becoming more common the closer you get to the Mason-Dixon Line, State College forecasters wrote.

Temperatures in the mid-40s and intermittent rain or snow showers are expected to continue through Thursday and into Black Friday. Sunny skies return on Saturday, but with colder temperatures, with highs dropping into the upper 30s.
