Predicted XI: Osho, Lookman and Osimhen to start, Simon and Boniface out – Nigeria’s expected line-up against Benin

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up for their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and Rwanda, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ahead of the match, the interim head coach of the 2013 AFCON champions, Augustine Eguavoen, has assembled a formidable squad of established stars and promising new faces.

In a 3-4-3 system, here’s a closer look at the predicted line-up for the clash with Benin Republic, where the Super Eagles will aim to secure their AFCON qualification with a win.

Goalkeeper:

Stanley Nwabali has proven to be the reliable option for Nigeria and is expected to start between the posts. With his recent form at Chippa United and even some desperate times for the Eagles, Nwabali is giving the team confidence at the back.

Defense:

Captain William Troost-Ekong is likely to lead the defense while Gabriel Osho, who is set for his debut, is expected to join him. Fulham defender Calvin Bassey also adds a strong attacking presence to the three-man defense.

Midfield:

Boavista defender Bruno Onyemaechi is expected to keep his position alongside Nottingham Forest defender Olaoluwa Aina and add a strong attacking presence on the wings.

Wilfred Ndidi’s experience and defensive capabilities make him a likely starter, while Alex Iwobi, in his attacking midfield role, will look to provide creativity and link the midfield with the forwards.

Attack:

Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze are expected to bring pace and creativity to the wings and support the prolific Victor Osimhen up front. Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been in sensational form and his goal-scoring ability will be crucial in Nigeria’s attempts to breach Benin’s defences.

Expected starting eleven:

Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabali
Defenders: William Troost-Ekong, Gabriel Osho, Calvin Bassey
Midfielders: Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Bruno Onyemaechi
Forward: Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman
