Predictions, how to watch ‘MNF’ in week 6

play

The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets face off in a pivotal AFC East matchup on “Monday Night Football.”

The Jets (2-3) suffer another heavy loss, this time against the Minnesota Vikings in London. This loss had consequences: New York head coach Robert Saleh was given his running papers, which set off panic alarms in Florham Park.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has his hands full: Not only does he have to navigate the Jets’ offensive conundrum, but the Bills walk into MetLife Stadium hungry for a win after losing the past two weeks.

Buffalo got off to a mixed start, but the positives come from the quarterback play. Josh Allen is off to one of the best starts of his career as he works with new weapons on offense. Historically, Allen hasn’t been great against the Jets, but he has a chance this week to take advantage of a team in turmoil.

With the Jets wearing their throwback uniforms, it’s only fitting that a Jets throwback impacts their offensive approach.

Jets legend Joe Namath weighed in on X, saying he’d like to see QB Aaron Rodgers call the plays tonight.

“Personally, I’d like to see Rodgers call his own plays for the offense tonight. A win puts us in a tie for first place in the Eastern Division. So let’s go Jets!!!,” Namath posted.

New York might be the real ‘City of Brotherly Love’.

The MetLife Stadium crew decided to show the late stages of Mets-Dodgers NLCS Game 2 on the stadium’s jumbotrons. The Mets would secure a 7-3 victory over the Dodgers, keeping baseball in New York going into October.

With running back James Cook left off the Bills roster due to a toe injury, Buffalo running back Frank Gore Jr. undrafted from the practice squad to make his NFL regular-season debut.

Gore, 22, is the son of former NFL running back Frank Gore, who played the 2019 season with the Bills and the 2020 season with the Jets. Buffalo signed the younger Gore as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft.

During his four-year career at Southern Miss, Gore Jr. rushed. rushing for 4,022 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also caught 75 passes for 692 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

There could be a little father-son magic in the making.

Now Frank Gore Jr. was going to make his regular-season debut, he got a few words from longtime NFL running back Frank Gore. Gore spent parts of his career with the Jets and Bills.

The Jets introduced a new set of uniforms for the 2024 season, but on Monday night they delved into their history. They’ll be wearing throwbacks, reminiscent of the Joe Namath-era Jets (and, well, Mark Sanchez, too).

James Cook returned to practice Saturday but will not play in the Bills’ “Monday Night Football” game against the New York Jets.

Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters he was injured in the game against Houston.

The Jets will once again be without wide receiver Malachi Corley, who was selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. Cornerback Michael Carter II is also not playing (back). On the plus side, they get back linebacker CJ Mosley, who has missed the last two games due to injury.

  • TCarter Warren
  • OL Max Michel
  • RB Israel Abanikanda
  • EDGE Braids McGregor
  • WR Malachi Corley
  • CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse
  • CB Michael Carter II

The Bills will sideline James Cook, who returned to practice on Saturday. They will also be without defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

  • RB James Cook
  • S Mike Edwards
  • LB Joe Andreessen
  • LB Edefuan Ulofoshio
  • IOL will pop
  • DT Ed Oliver

The Jets fired Robert Saleh after struggling to win consistently under his leadership for more than three years.

“This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be expected to be,” Jets owner Woody Johnson wrote in a statement announcing the resignation. “I think this is the best time to go in a different direction.”

Saleh posted just a 20-36 record with the Jets, and while his defense was routinely among the league’s best, New York’s offenses fell on the opposite end of the spectrum.
