“WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of Sid Eudy,” the company wrote.

“WWE extends its condolences to Eudy’s family, friends and fans.”

The Arkansas native began his professional wrestling career in 1987 with Continental Championship Wrestling as Lord Humongous. The 6-foot-9 giant won the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Southeastern Heavyweight Championship later that year, teaming with Shane Douglas to eventually capture the NWA Southeastern Tag Team Championship.

After his time in NWA and his first stint in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), he made his debut with WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation) in 1991. He started his time there as Sid Justice and quickly rose to prominence, challenging Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VIII and feuding with The Ultimate Warrior.

Eudy wrestled in the United States Wrestling Association from 1994 to 1996, later making his return to the WWF and winning the WWF Championship against Shawn Michaels. He later won it a second time against Bret Hart before losing it at WrestleMania 13 to The Undertaker.

In 1997, he was released to recover from neck surgery and made brief appearances in independent wrestling, Mexico and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).

Eudy returned to WCW in 1999, eventually winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Kevin Nash. However, his time with WCW would end before WWF purchased the company.

Eudy suffered a near-career-ending injury after attempting to hit Scott Steiner with a boot from the second turnbuckle. He was nearly retired from wrestling for good, and was told by a doctor that he would never wrestle again.

Until 2017, he appeared sporadically at various promotions.
