A pub patron has criticised the ‘poor’ rewards given to a drunk who downed a huge amount of beer.

Showing up a photo of a poster he had seen in the men’s room of his local pub, the man asked: “Surely this isn’t a club that EVERYONE should join?” The pub offers “membership” to three clubs, respectively “Club 100”, “300” and “500”.

Meeting the requirements is pretty self-explanatory, as the poster explains in three steps: “Join the club. Buy 100/300/500 pints of GAST ale. Claim your prize!”

And according to the poster, 100 pints will get you a navy polo shirt, 300 pints will get you a maroon one, and the ultimate prize is a black fleece with “500 Club” and the pub logo on it.

Taking to Reddit, the bewildered man added: “I wouldn’t want to know when I’ve had 50 pints let alone 300! AND all you get is a crappy polo shirt. Seen in the men’s toilets of my local pub.”

Fellow Redditors also criticized the plan, giving various reasons why they wouldn’t participate. “One thing I definitely don’t want to record is how many drinks I’ve had in the same pub,” one explained.

A second added: “It’s the same pub area that would make it depressing. I’ve lived in a few different countries and coming home after a few years and seeing the same people in the same pub moaning about the same things always makes me a bit depressed.”

A third said: “I’ve just worked in a pub for about 9 months and it’s really dawned on me that I absolutely do not want to end up like the regulars who come in at the same time every day and drink the same thing. Many of them are deliberately left alone. It seems like a miserable existence.”

While a fourth made light of the situation and offered encouragement: “10 pints every Friday night for a year and that polo is yours for next summer, mate. Go for it.”
