Puka Nacua suffers another pre-season knee injury, goes to the injured list; Steve Avila is an IR candidate with an MCL sprain, plus updates from Joe Noteboom and Kevin Dotson

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay said Monday that wide receiver Puka Nacua’s knee injury suffered Sunday night against the Lions was a PCL sprain, placing him on injured reserve (IR). As a result, Nacua will miss at least four games.

McVay confirmed that the injury is also an aggravation of the same knee injury Nacua suffered during joint practice with the Chargers last month, “just a little more serious than it was before.”

Additionally, offensive lineman Steve Avila suffered an MCL sprain against the Lions and is also a candidate to go on IR. McVay said Avila tried to get back into the game on the first play of the second half and the Rams’ medical staff had to pull him out.

“It’s a compliment how much he wants to be there,” McVay said. “So I think that’s a positive thing, but it certainly angered (Vice President, Sports Medicine and Performance) Reggie Scott, but it shows how tough Steve is.”

Forward Joe Noteboom suffered a serious ankle injury against the Lions, which will keep him out for several weeks, according to McVay.

Cobie Durantis is dealing with a toe injury, McVay said, while Kevin Dotson is dealing with a sprained ankle.
