Rachel Zegler delivers foul-mouthed tirade against Donald Trump

Actor Rachel Zegler has voiced her unfiltered thoughts on newly elected President Donald Trump, taking to Instagram to criticize the Republican following his election victory.

Zegler, who became famous in Steven Spielberg’s Westside story remake, plays the lead role Romeo + Juliet on Broadway and has often been targeted by social media users who criticized her views.

On Wednesday, a user on X, formerly Twitter, posted screenshots of Zegler’s comments about Trump, which the actor wrote in Instagram stories. A story is designed to be deleted after 24 hours, so the posts are no longer available on Zegler’s account.

According to the screenshots, Zegler made the posts during her show’s break, shortly after Trump’s victory, writing, “May Trump’s supporters and voters and Trump himself never know peace.” Newsweek has contacted a Zegler spokesperson by email for comment.

“I find myself speechless in the midst of this situation. Another four years of hate, leading us into a world I don’t want to live in,” Zegler wrote.

She continued: “I shouldn’t be so shocked, but I am. I am heartbroken for my friends who woke up this morning (in) fear. And I’m here with you. To cry, to scream, to hug. about how the left continues to fail us in charting a new path forward.

In a follow-up post, Zegler said there was a “deep, deep illness” in the United States, given the number of people who voted for a “man who threatens our democracy.”

She added: “It’s terrifying how many people support what this man preaches. It is a foolish subscription to a false sense of security, of masculinity, of intelligence, of patriotism and of humanity. There is no help, no counselor, in each of them I can go on. I feel sad.

Zegler also encouraged readers to stop using X, billionaire Elon Musk’s social media platform. In the run-up to the election, the tech mogul campaigned for Trump, and on Wednesday the president-elect named Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as leaders of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency.

“I use that app for a reason. He helped get that man elected and you’re giving him business,” Zegler wrote. In another post she said she was going on stage for the second act of Romeo + Juliet and had to “get off my soapbox before I get too hot.”

She concluded the post with: “Sending love to everyone who needs it today. May we all help each other through the worst and hold these politicians accountable. You dem govs just got really important! They already were, but hey! follow your governors! hold them! responsible local government is where we will make real change. This is not the end.

“I will love these four years as best I can. f*** Donald Trump.”
