Raiders fire OC Luke Getsy after loss to Bengals, 2-7 start to season

While an interim OC or play-caller has not yet been announced, Pelissero noted that former Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner, the current passing game coordinator, is a logical candidate. Las Vegas’ bye is coming, and how different the team will look when it faces the Miami Dolphins on November 17 is worth keeping an eye on.

Earlier this season, quarterback Gardner Minshew was benched as the starter in favor of Aidan O’Connell. O’Connell did little to improve the offense and suffered a thumb injury in Week 7, prompting Minshew’s return to the starting lineup. However, Minshew was benched again during Sunday’s defeat, this time in favor of Desmond Ridder.

While the Raiders are mired in a five-game losing streak, Getsy’s offense is last in giveaways (19), with rushing yards per game (76.9) and yards per carry (3.5). Las Vegas’ paltry 280.2 yards per game ranks 29th in the league as the offense has registered 20 or fewer points in six of nine games.

Minshew, a Pro Bowler for the first time last season with the Indianapolis Colts, is 28th in the NFL with an 80.2 passer rating. O’Connell is worse at 76.0.

However, it’s worth noting that Pierce’s defense has hardly been a unit the Raiders can hang their hat on. They have allowed more than 30 points four times this season, allowing a season-high of 41 on Sunday.

Sunday’s news marks Getsy’s second firing of the calendar year, as he was fired as the Bears’ offensive coordinator in January.

Getsy clearly wasn’t a fit in Vegas, but not much has happened for the Silver and Black in 2024.
